About the North Shore PMC Kids Ride

The North Shore PMC Kids Ride (formerly the Cape Ann Ride) is more than a bike ride—it's a vibrant, hopeful community event where kids of all ages come together to raise money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Founded by Pat Morris after the heartbreaking loss of her husband Russell to cancer in 2013, this ride is rooted in love, loss, and the power of collective hope. What began as a quiet winter turned into a life-changing journey when Russell fell suddenly and gravely ill. In the days and weeks that followed, Pat witnessed firsthand the courage of nurses and doctors—the true superheroes who gave their all. Despite every effort, Russell passed away just one month later, and life was never the same.

Yet out of this darkness, Pat found light. That spring, she discovered the Pan-Mass Challenge. What she found was not just an event, but a family—people who, like her, believed in fighting back, in building community, and in never giving up on hope. That spark led to the creation of the North Shore PMC Kids Ride, where children now ride with purpose: in memory of loved ones lost and in support of those still fighting.

Since its founding, Pat and her team—The Friends of Scrawney-Morgan—have raised over $230,000 for Dana-Farber and the Joe Andruzzi Foundation through bike rides, blood drives, beach walks, and more. The ride invites children ages 2 to 15 to pedal for a cause, with routes designed for every age and skill level, from training wheels in the park to 11-mile rides through the scenic North Shore.

There’s fun to be had and impact to be made. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to a world without cancer—a world where no family has to lose their Russell, Stevie, or Alice.

As Pat says, “I believe in hope. I believe in believe. Onward, forward… never again.”

Join us. Ride with us. And help us turn hope into action.
